About Me

My name is Pat Flannery. I am an Irish award-winning artist living along the “Wild Atlantic Way” on the West Coast of Ireland, in Co. Galway.

I am a wife, a mother of five children, and an art enthusiast. However, despite my undying love for painting, the family always came first. Consequently, I decided to fully focus on raising my children in the best care possible by giving them my all. Now that they have all reached adulthood, I was elated to find myself in a position to gracefully leave behind my 8 am – 4 pm daily job and return to my first love of painting.

I am primarily a self-taught artist. I use watercolour paint on paper to create beautiful paintings, which are full of colour, and focus on expression and detail.

My Background

My earliest childhood memories are of sitting around the family table surrounded by all types of creative work. My dream after finishing Secondary School was to attend Art College but alas it was not to be. Being an artist back then was not encouraged as it was deemed not to be a secure or successful career path to choose.

Instead, I went to Secretarial College, obtained my qualifications, and gained employment at the University College Hospital, Galway.

I was married at a young age. When our second child was born, I had taken the decision to become a stay-at-home mother and to raise and care for my family to the best of my abilities.

During this phase of my life, I worked from home as a Dressmaker. When my youngest son started pre-school, I returned to college at night and gained a Diploma in Interior Design. I followed this very enjoyable path for a number of years until life took another unexpected turn (i.e., Global Recession), and I went to work for a large Medical Device Company.

While working with this company as an operator, college beckoned me again. I completed another Diploma Course, but this time In Quality Assurance and Project Management. I continued to work with this company for a further 14 years.

Overall, these various experiences have been really helpful as they ultimately made me who I am today – a strong, loving, passionate, and highly creative artist.
